Hey strong girl!
Are you thinking about cutting carbs, giving up sweets or wine, and adding HIIT at the gym to prepare your summer bod 👙
I have heard this a lot in the last week from potential clients… And I get it. And I know it can be tempting.
But here’s the thing- when you have a periodized nutrition approach and sustainable foundational habits in place year-round, you shouldn’t need to crash diet before summer. And remember that whatever your approach is to weight loss, it has to feel sustainable to you. So, if you lose weight by doing 2 hours of cardio + eating 1200 calories… that will be really challenging to maintain (eek)!
It’s sad when I see the same exact people who have been trying to lose the same 20 pounds for years running back to the quick fixes and diets that caused them to regain the weight in the first place. Yes, I see you… you know who you are.
❌ You don’t need to be extreme.
❌ You don’t need to cut out all fruit, sugar, and carbs.
❌ You don’t need to add in HIIT, OT, F45, and live at the gym…
✅ What you need is structure and to prioritize daily foundational habits.
Don’t get me wrong… Cutting carbs, doubling workouts, skipping meals or doing fasting, and taking zero rest days will get you some quick weight loss (and remember that fat loss > weight loss). But eventually your body will start to adapt and send you red flag signals.
❗️The weight loss will stall.
❗️You’ll have to drop calories lower and lower to make just a small dent on the scale.
❗️You’ll start going overboard on food that you haven’t allowed yourself to eat.
❗️Your energy will be lower.
❗️Your workouts will feel like hot garbage.
❗️And cortisol, thyroid, and sex hormones might get dysregulated.
I know you want to lose weight yesterday. But what’s great about losing 10 pounds if you’re going to regain 20?
When you actually take the time to create a periodized nutrition approach, your results will improve significantly. This means following a plan that allows you to build daily healthy habits that feel doable for you, and also allows you seasons of eating enough and improving your metabolism/hormones, balanced with seasons of fat loss.
This takes patience, consistency, and doing the boring, unsexy work up front.
The question is- are you willing to play the long-game and put in the boring work up front for a greater long-term results?
Or will you always be stuck in the never-ending hamster wheel of sexy, and new crash diets?
Choose wisely.
